IPAT International Playing Ability Test A three-DVD set, with companion Workbooks.

Pool is the most exacting sport for hand-eye coordination and, until the IPAT series, serious players did not have a way to know how good their technical skills were, or how they compared to others.

This three-DVD set, each with a Workbook, will not only let you find out how good you are via skill assessments, but will help you become a better pool player through special exercises—part of the Playing Ability Test (PAT), approved by the World Pool-Billiards Association.

Level 1
The LEVEL 1 DVD and Workbook are for advanced beginners, as well as for enthusiasts whose progress has stalled. The DVD and trade paper bound workbook include exercises for basic strokes (such as aiming, draw shots, and follow shots), training games, and 10 drills – and you can record your personal performances. 145 mins., 64 pages.

Level 2
The LEVEL 2 DVD and Workbook are designed for advanced players, and is a challenging training program to bring your basic skills to a higher level. The DVD and trade paper bound workbook include 10 advanced drills, such as speed drill, frozen rail drill, and more, as well as exercises (such as for 9-Ball) and intermediate-to-advanced workouts. 160 mins., 71 pages.

Level 3
The LEVEL 3 DVD and Workbook are designed for expert players and anyone interested in the fine details of world-class technique. The DVD and trade paper bound workbook include 10 drills, exercises for advanced players, and high-level training games – all of which can help you compare your playing levels against others. With Bonus Audio CD, “The Psychology of Pool.” 145 mins., 77 pages.

The DVDs feature:

  • - 2003 World Champion Thorsten Hohmann, who was also German and European champion
  • - Andreas Huber, coach of the German national pool team
  • - Ralph G. Eckert, European coach of the European Pocket Billiard Federation

The Workbooks are authored by Huber, Eckert, and Jorgen Sandman:
  • - Ralph G. Eckert is from Mannheim, Germany, and has been a professional pool player since 1982. Currently, he is internationally known as a pool player, successful book author, trickshot champion, and European coach of the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF).
  • - Born in Sundsvall, Sweden, Jorgen Sandman has been a co-founder of the World Pool-Billliard Association, an award-winning player, a national coach (for Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Ukraine, and Denmark), head of the EPBF, and an author (“Right on Cue.”)
  • - Andreas Huber was born in Dachau, Germany, and has been a professional player since 1985. He has been coach of the German national pool team, instructor for the German Billiards Union, and European coach of the EPBF.

Through this system of DVDs and workbooks, which are popular in Europe, pool players in the U.S. and Canada can now train like a pro — and compare their skills against others worldwide via a Web-based scoreboard. A U.S./Canada instructor-based system for certification of PAT-trained players is also now being developed. WPA’s endorsement of IPAT means that national and international comparisons of anyone’s skills are now possible, since everyone is taking the same tests.

DVDs are in German and English, in stereo. The DVDs, bonus audio CD, and workbooks are part of the Play Pool Like a Pro series of training workbooks, introductory books, and DVDs. DVDs produced by Cueball-Vision GmbH, books by Litho-Verlag.

Available in the U.S. and Canada exclusively from Play Pool Like a Pro.
